Why do we need an AED?
GPG Enterprises
After only 5 minutes, the chance of survival decreases by 50%. When a
person's heart stops, every minute that passes without receiving a shock
from an AED decreases their chance of survival by 10%. It is true that
many police departments and ambulance services have AEDs, are well
trained in how to use them, and will arrive quickly. However, having an
AED available just a few minutes earlier improves a person's chance of
survival.
How long does it take for a by-stander to realize a person is in trouble?
How long does it take to make the 911 call?
How long does it take for an emergency service unit to be dispatched,
arrive, and apply the AED?
If you have an AED at your site and are able to use it on a person just 3
minutes before help arrives, you increase that persons chance of
survival by 30%
